Amarok Logo The Amarok project has released version 2.4.3 of its open source music player. The release was originally intended to be 2.4.2 but the developers skipped that version due to technical problems.

Version 2.4.3 brings updates to Amarok's visual design: the status bar has been removed from the bottom of the application window in favour of "more focused notifications up top, or where they make the most sense". New visual effects have been added.

Dynamic playlists are easier to understand and more reliable, and Collections now support drag-and-drop. Other changes include fixes for some of the online services, the ability to configure the names of podcast episodes, automatic lyrics scrolling and various bug fixes. The developers say that, meanwhile, students participating in this year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC) and Season of KDE (SoK) events have been working "in git branches" on Amarok Mobile and podcast integration with Gpodder.net.

More details about the update can be found in the official release announcement. Amarok 2.4.3 is available to download from the project's site. Amarok is licensed under version 2 of the GNU General Public Licence (GPLv2).
