In the run up to next week's Mobile World Congress (MWC), Swiss software vendor Myriad has announced the launch of Alien Dalvik, a version of the Android virtual machine for other platforms, which will allow them to run Android apps. Myriad says that for users the integration of Alien Dalvik into their systems will be completely transparent – all they will see is an increase in the number of available apps.

The inclusion of technology from Dalvik Turbo, Myriad's Android accelerator, should ensure that apps run at a decent speed. Myriad is planning to release a version of Alien Dalvik for MeeGo, "later this year". It will announce further platforms over the coming months. Further information, including a video of Alien Dalvik running on a Nokia N900, can be found on the Myriad website.
