The Alien Arena development team has announced the release of version 7.50 of its first-person shooter computer game, Alien Arena 2011. Based on the CRX engine source code released by id Software, Alien Arena is a Sci-fi themed, free online multiplayer game that features colourful 3D, arcade-like atmospheres and a number of gameplay modes, such as death match.

The 2011 release of Alien Arena features the addition of ragdoll physics using the Open Dynamics physics engine, True Type Font support, and a revamped in-game IRC client. Other changes include new music by Paul Joyce, a variety of bug fixes, two new maps and one revised map. The developers also note that they have implemented the use of AutoTools "for easier and more consistent Linux/Unix/MacOS compilation". An official Alien Arena 2011 trailer is available on YouTube.

More details about the release, including a full list of new features and changes, can be found in the official release announcement and in the change log. Alien Arena 2011 (7.50) is available to download for Windows and Linux from the project's Icculus page. Alien Arena is freeware with GPL licensed code and proprietary multimedia resources.
