Alfresco appoints new CEO, strengthens US presence

Alfresco, the company behind the open source enterprise content management system of the same name, has appointed Doug Dennerline as its new CEO. According to a report in Techworld, the company is preparing for an upcoming initial public offering (IPO) in the US. Alfresco has been expanding its presence in the US market for a while now. Dennerline was previously President of the Software as a Service (SaaS) provider SuccessFactors which was acquired by SAP last year for $3.4 billion; before that he was chief executive of the Webex division of Cisco.

Alfresco CTO and founder John Newton said that the London Stock Exchange was, in his opinion, not the right place to go public with a technology company. "We've made a very explicit public intention to go public on NASDAQ, and to do that we felt that we needed a US-based CEO with US experience", he continued. Alfresco Software was founded in 2002 by John Newton and John Powell; the latter was CEO up until now. It currently has its headquarters in Maidenhead.

The company supplies enterprise licensed versions of its software and began offering cloud based services based on the Alfresco CMS for collaboration in February 2012. The Community Edition of the Alfresco CMS is licensed under the LGPLv3; that and other developer resources for the CMS can be found on developer.alfresco.com.
