Airtime logo Version 1.9.5 of Sourcefabric's open source Airtime radio software has been released. The new version focuses on making it simpler to deploy using an 'easy install' package which works from a single click under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS or Debian 6.0 via the Ubuntu Software Centre or the GDebi Package Installer.

The DEB package will install everything needed for a working version of Airtime and sets up a default configuration without requiring the user to enter any settings. Other changes include Media Monitor enhancements that improve the stability of the application when parsing file metadata or when moving 'watch' folders which used for synchronising content. Other fixes for bugs in parsing Unicode metadata in audio files, working with firewalls and versions of python-virtualenv have also been applied.

According to its developers, the previous 1.9.4 release was the most downloaded version of their software; it was downloaded more than 1,500 times in its first month of availability. Airtime is used by a number of radio stations including London's Resonance FM, Poland's Bieszczady FM and Senegal's West Africa Democracy Radio.

Further details about the update, including a full list of bug fixes, can be found in the official release announcement and in the change log. Airtime 1.9.5 is available to download from Sourcefabric.org; an online demo and quick guide are provided. Airtime source code is licensed under the GPLv3.
