Developer and After the Deadline creator Raphael Mudge has announced that the After the Deadline (AtD) intelligent spelling and grammar checker has been open sourced. After the Deadline, an Automattic project, is a plug-in for the TinyMCE JavaScript editor and the WordPress blogging platform, that uses "artificial intelligence and natural language processing technology" to correct writing mistakes and provide "smart suggestions".

"We’re also announcing a jQuery API for After the Deadline. Now you can add an AtD check to a DIV or TEXTAREA with little effort," added Mudge. It's the same API that powers his companies Intense Database plug-in and is released under an MIT/LGPL license.

A demonstration of the software in action is available at polishmywriting.com. After the Deadline server software source code and documentation are available to download from open.afterthedeadline.com. After the Deadline is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
