ActiveState has released version 6.0.0 of its Komodo integrated development environment (IDE). Komodo is a full-featured IDE for Python, PHP, Ruby, JavaScript, Perl and Web development. Discussing the announcement, ActiveState Director of Engineering Jeff Hobbs said, "Komodo’s reputation is already very strong as the go-to multi-language, multi-platform IDE. With the launch of version 6, Komodo enables even faster development for everything it did in previous versions".

Built on the Mozilla platform, Komodo 6.0.0 is based on the same sources as Firefox 3.5 and now features support for HTML 5 and CSS 3. The developers have also added a new file management system called “Places” aimed at making project system navigation even easier by providing a "customised view of a user's file system (local or remote)". Other features include a new tool layout and invoke-tool helper, debugging, syntax checking, auto-complete and code browsing support for various languages, such as Python 3, Perl 5.12 and Tcl 8.6.

Further information about the release can be found on the Komodo features page and in the official release announcement. A single license for Komodo costs $382 (£240) including upgrades and support. A $50 per license discount is available until the 15th of November, 2010. A free 21-day trial of Komodo IDE 6.0.0 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (32 and 64-bit). Existing Komodo 6.0.0 RC1 users can upgrade via the "Help > Check for Updates" menu, while version 5.0 users are advised to download and install version 6.
