Acer releases dual boot Android and Windows netbook

The Acer Aspire One AOD250 running Google's Android OS. As previously announced at this years Computex trade show, Taiwanese firm Acer has now officially released its first Aspire One netbook running Google's open source Android mobile operating system (OS). The Acer Aspire One AOD250 dual boots both Android and Microsoft Windows XP, out of the box. On the AOD250 Android is acting as an "instant on" operating system for quick access to the Internet while Windows boots.

According to Gizmodo, the Acer Android installation features full Flash support in the browser and several pre-installed applications, however, it will not have access to the Android Marketplace. The AOD250 reportedly includes the same hardware specifications as Acer's D250 netbook, which features a 10.1 inch LED-backlit display, a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N280 processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive. The Android powered netbook is now available in the US in four different colours from $349.99. A short video of the new netbook booting and running Android is available on YouTube.
