AMD Logo AMD has released the free "Tapper" framework, software that is designed to automate "all aspects of testing". The company has reportedly used this collection of Perl programs for years and has now released it under an open source licence.

Tapper contains modules for automation (network booting, setting up a computer, using Xen and KVM for virtualisation), for performing tests, for a web interface and for test result evaluation. It offers integrated Shell script, Perl and Python support. The software is designed to co-operate with Autotest, which is mainly used for testing Linux kernels. The Test Anything Protocol (TAP) is used for formatting test results. A custom object-relational mapper allows Tapper to be database independent; the developers work with MySQL and SQLite.

Hosted on GitHub, Tapper source code is licensed under a 2-clause BSD licence.
