AMD and three other firms join OSADL
AMD, Desarrollo Software Miramon 4 S.L., Eberspächer and OpenTech have joined the Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL), an organisation that promotes and supports the use of open source software in the automation industry and in the embedded sector. AMD has joined the organisation as a silver member; the same level is also held by Intel.
According to the OSADL, AMD's reasons for joining include the "G-Series" processors the vendor introduced in early 2011 to target the embedded market. An AMD G-T56N sample processor has been running at the OSADL test farm, which carries out real-time kernel tests, for several weeks; the achieved test results are available on the OSADL web site.
Among the OSADL's tasks is to organise Realtime Linux workshops. The thirteenth event of this kind will be held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague from 20 till 22 October 2011; the event is scheduled to take place a few days before the LinuxCon Europe and Embedded Linux Conference (ELC) Europe conferences also to be held in Prague.
