Ubuntu logo With the release of Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot", which is scheduled to arrive on Thursday 13 October, users will no longer be required to add third-party PPA repositories in order to install the 64-bit version of Adobe's Flash Player for Linux. Flash Player 11 for 64-bit systems will be available directly from the Ubuntu Software Centre via the "Canonical partner channel".

The partner channel contains various packages – including the Skype client for Linux and the Fluendo MP3 plug-in – which, for a variety of reasons, cannot be distributed using the standard repositories. Previously only the 32-bit version of Flash Player (which can also be used on 64-bit systems via a plug-in wrapper) was available in this channel.
