2010 Packt Open Source Award winners announced
Packt Publishing has announced the winners of its inaugural Open Source Awards. According to Packt, the aim of the contest is to "encourage, support, recognize and reward Open Source projects". Awards were presented in six software categories: Open Source CMS, Hall of Fame CMS, Most Promising Open Source Project, Open Source JavaScript Libraries, Open Source E-Commerce Applications and Open Source Graphics Software.
The award for the best open source Content Management System (CMS) went to CMS Made Simpe, while the award for the Hall of Fame CMS was presented to WordPress. The Pimcore CMS system framework received the award for the Most Promising Open Source Project.
PrestaShop was voted as the best Open Source E-Commerce Application and jQuery received the best Open Source JavaScript Library award. The winner of the Open Source Graphics Software Award was the Blender 3D content creation suite, which recently released a new beta for Blender 2.5 and its Third Blender film.
Votes from the public selected the finalists in each category and the winners were selected by a panel of judges. The winners in each category were awarded with $2,500 and the first runner up received $1,000, while the second runner up was given $500.
