You are right, i am the one that posted this and i can post it online
for everyone to see that KDE can be light WITHOUT sacrificing
anything (can't show it right now as i am compiling KDE 4.4.1 which
by itself eats a lot of memory), some people with KDE may use even
less memory as my KDE isn't completely stripped out of stuff. But i
do know that if someone wants and knows how then he can have a very
light KDE.
Kubuntu was knows for many years for it's crappy KDE implementation
and i must admit some people say it is plain KDE but i used
openSUSE's KDE which was taking even less memory so "plain/vanilla
KDE != less memory usage". Plain, vanilla KDE contains a lot of stuff
many people will never need and because *buntu has to attract
everyone then it's software MUST be compiled with support for GTK in
case someone installs a GTK application.
My gentoo KDE setup eats 89MB of memory on start even though i have
wicd turned on (it is gnome or python i think). If i were in charge
of Ubuntu i would also ignore KDE as Gnome is their main DE and it
won't change i guess so i would put all people into making Gnome
great and not the KDE which is just ubuntu's derivative.
