I'm not sure why with all the various hardware databases out there
(Ubuntu for one supposedly has one) that there shouldn't be a way to 

a) Contact people who have the specific hardware, or similar hardware
that might be impacted, and tell them there is a new fix and/or issue
identified

b) Provide them with a LiveUSB image that they can download and test
that they see the existing issue (or not), and if the fix addresses
it (or not, or regresses something else)

c) Include on that LiveUSB image testing support utilities such as
automated test suites, and tools to create logs/debug files and
submit it back automatically. (LiveUSB to provide a place to write
results to if network connectivity for example is compromised, and/or
a way to record data up to a hard system freeze)

d) a way to opt out (especially if I have multiple hardware profiles
posted and some are out of date, or I find I'm unable or uninterested
in adequately testing any particular component)

e) a way to record the results of their tests (that they did test,
and perhaps some performance numbers) [it should be easy for
developers to see the amount of hardware/software has been tested in
the field to identify potential gaps]

Really what I am envisioning is it should be really easy for me to
help testing by letting me know when there is something to test, and
providing a way for me to test and report back with minimal time,
knowledge, or risk to my system.
