Let's abolish software patents once and for all 13 November 2009 14:45
I am hoping the Bilski case in our Supreme Court is lifted up. This
case is about abolishing software patents. Software patents are
horribly evil. Mathematical algorithms cannot be patented, and
software should be in the same category. Software patents promote
monopolistic actions (as we have seen with Microsoft), and prohibit
competition and innovation. It's getting a little worrisome that
Microsoft is sucking up as many software patents that it can handle
and more. It's a ridiculous list, and you can be sure that its
motives are for business related reasons, which is to maintain a
powerful position amount competitors, in order to NOT have to compete
the old fashioned way.
