As much as Klaus Knopper is a personal hero of mine for making Debian
'accessible' to the mainstream consumer and also giving me an easy to
use rescue Live-CD in the past, I don't like this
'marketing'-strategy he agreed upon.
The German "Linux-Magazin" part of the Linux New Media Group has a
honorable past, before some people decided to cash in and turn this
grassroots mag into a shady commercial product - with paywalls,
hilariously high priced 'special offers' etc, etc.
There is nothing wrong with making money by publishing print mags or
books or asking for money online for certain services, but the way
they handle it turns the 'open source' community upside down.
Of course, the Knoppix 6.3 DVD/CD/USB will be eventually available to
the masses, but this marketing gag really leaves a bad taste.
