As open source and linux gained momentum, there is a certain
relaxation or ignorance of important freedom requirements. We can run
a semi-free GNU/Linux distribution, but a 100% free computing
experience is still far.
Let's face it, if it weren't for the hardcore Free Software
activists, business would have found ways to create differential
advantage on software, by limiting its distribution in some way. BSD
and MIT licences are a dangerous compromise these days.
New threats from patents and software as a service require new tools:
the GPL v3 and the Affero GPL. We should move more code to those
licences. In the end "better for no one" is "best for everybody", as
the article points out.
