AST is not an NPE! 24 September 2009 20:23
Where did you ever come up with the idea that AST is an NPE? Nothing
could be further from the truth. AST purchases patents, issues
licenses for unrestricted use to the member companies that
participate in the buying process, and then resells the patents on
the open market. The licenses granted by AST don't allow for the a
license holder to ever assert the patents or use it in any offensive
way. It can only be viewed as a freedom to operate in the space
specifically claimed by the patent.
By charter AST is required to sell or otherwise dispose of all
patents acquired within a relatively short amount of time just so
that they can never be accused of being an NPE or aggregator.
