The Slide Show

The slide show includes some screen shots from all of the applications included in this feature.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are plenty of great open source applications for OS X, supported by active communities. Developers from around the globe are creating new applications or crafting popular open source programs from other platforms into something that Mac users will find familiar. The programs selected for this feature are just some of the stars of the Mac open source world. Part two of "Open source stars for Mac OS X" will take a look at several video and video applications, from VLC and Audacity, to popular Preference Pane additions for Mac, such as Growl and MacFUSE. If you feel that we've missed one of your open source application favourites, please feel free to post a message or leave a comment in our forum.

Please see "Open source stars for Mac OS X: Part 2" for an overview of alternative audio, video, burning and encryption applications and much more.
