Wyse switches its thin clients to Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise
Wyse and Novell have announced Wyse Enhanced SUSE Linux Enterprise, a version of Novell’s enterprise Linux especially for thin clients. In the fourth quarter of this year, the X50L thin client laptop is to hit the shelves with the Novell distribution. The operating system includes VMWare's VDM client, Citrix ICA client, and Microsoft's RDP client. Novell and Wyse both use Gnome as a desktop interface. Firefox and a terminal emulator are also on board.
Wyse has previously used its own "Wyse Linux V6" Linux distribution in devices such as its V50DV dual-head thin client. The new agreement may spell the end for Wyse's own Linux, replacing it with a version of Novell’s more general-purpose offering.
