New versions of Delphi and C++ Builder
Embarcadero, which bought the CodeGear development tools division from Borland at the beginning of May, has released the new generation of CodeGear rapid application development (RAD) tools. Delphi 2009 and C++ Builder 2009 now come with a host of new features, such as generics and anonymous methods for Delphi. According to the manufacturer, C++ Builder already supports C++0x, the next C++ standard. A multi-tier architecture known as Datasnap-Architecture helps speed the development of database applications.
The Architect Editions of both tools include the ER/Studio Developer Edition database modelling tool and are now fully-featured products for web design and database development. Both IDEs are Unicode-capable. They come with an extensive visual component library to aid the development of Ajax- and Silverlight-compatible applications, for example, as well as Microsoft Office-style ribbon controls. They handle the PNG (Portable Network Graphics) image format. The desktop applications run under Windows XP and Vista. Supported databases are Interbase, Blackfish SQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, IBM DB2, SQL Anywhere, Sybase and MySQL.
