New, compact multichannel VPN router
Viprinet is exhibiting a prototype smaller version of its multiple-link VPN router at the Systems trade show in Munich. The Multichannel VPN Router 300 resides in a 13 x 18 x 14cm housing and can accommodate up to three hotplug-enabled modem modules. Viprinet says that these modules can bundle DSL and UMTS 3G connections to achieve a total speed of up to 100 Mbps. The company plans to launch the Multichannel VPN Router 300 towards the end of 2008 at a price of less than €1,000.
In addition, Viprinet has furnished its VPN router with VPN client software which uses SSL-encrypted VPN technology to connect PCs with office or computing centre network – a VPN hub. The Windows software establishes the VPN over two different internet connections at once, such as via Wi-Fi and 3G. It claims that the VPN connection will remain live if the wireless connection fails. A Mac OS X version of the client is scheduled for release in November 2008 and a Linux version in early 2009. Viprinet has so far not announced any prices for the software.
