Groovy Eclipse plugin gets refactoring support

Developers using Groovy Eclipse, the Eclipse plug-in for Groovy, previously had no refactoring features, but this has been remedied with version 1.5.7, which is now available to download. Groovy is dynamic language implemented for the Java virtual machine, which has been gaining attention with Grails, a Rails like framework written in Groovy.

The Groovy Eclipse plugin support was developed by three students at the HSR University of Applied Sciences in Rapperswil, Switzerland, as part of their bachelor thesis. They document the refactoring support for Extract Method, Inline Method, Rename Local, Rename Method, Rename Class, and Rename Field on their own site. The students have also provided a source code formatter and an experimental hierarchy view, as tools.
