Dell launches browser-based PC remote control

Dell has launched a new piece of software, Dell Remote Access (DRA). The product allows you to control your home computer remotely over the web from another PC or even a smartphone, allowing file transfer and music streaming. The basic product is free, with a charge for additional functions. Dell plans to pre-install the program on its computers, but for now, it's available to download.

After installing the application on your PC, you must register on Dell's DRA site. The software accesses shared directories by URL, and the browser can upload remote files directly onto the home machine. The free version offers only simple file sharing; the Pro version, with all the features, costs $10 a month or $100 a year.

An existing services with similar facilities, Citrix' GoToMyPC, has been available for some time.
