Bondi: another API for mobile devices

Under the name Bondi, the OMTP Group (Open Mobile Terminal Platform) plans to develop a programming interface that will facilitate the creation of Web 2.0 applications for mobile devices. The goal of the initiative is to have a single interface between browsers and a cell phone’s operating system. Web applications would then be able to access functions on phones, such as assessing the user’s current location determined by the phone's GPS.

The main goal is reportedly to make this interface as safe as possible. The Group, which consists of AT&T, Hutchison 3G, Orange, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telenor, T-Mobile and Vodafone, will be presenting preliminary results at the end of this year.
