Two developer contests from Qualcomm
Mobile technology company Qualcomm is currently running two developer competitions with a combined prize award of $370,000 (approximately £227,500). With the Peer-2-Peer App Challenge, the company is looking for applications for its AllJoyn framework, while the Windows RT App Developer Contest deals with applications for the Windows RT environment.
The open source AllJoyn framework is designed to enable peer-to-peer communication between mobile devices without the need for servers to be involved in the process. The Apache 2.0 licensed framework supports near field communication (NFC), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and can be used for a variety of tasks. Accordingly, there are several different application technologies for the Peer-2-Peer App Challenge, including Best Gaming App, Best Educational App, Best Social App and others. Qualcomm is providing prizes with a total value of $170,000. The application deadline is 27 December.
Developers who want to enter the Windows RT contest have less time, since the deadline for that competition is 1 October. This challenge offers $200,000 in prizes which will be divided among one overall and the four individual categories: connectivity, gaming, productivity and peer-to-peer.
