IBM logo IBM has added two new components to its software portfolio in order to better fulfil the needs of larger companies: Rational Engineering Lifecycle Manager and SmartCloud Continuous Delivery are intended to help with quality assurance and reduce software delivery cycle times.

IBM says that the new products are designed to meet demands in large-scale projects, such as those found in the automotive industry, where small changes in the system can have more significant effects than initially expected. The Lifecycle Manager can be used from the very beginning to identify weak points and adjust designs accordingly.

Since the complexity of these types of projects is a result, in part, of several departments working together, features in IBM's SmartCloud for Continuous Delivery are designed to make collaborative planning of projects easier. Keeping track of project changes in such a way can help reduce the time between releases. In addition, models and mechanisms for automating and standardising processes mean that software can be implemented more quickly.
