NetBeans logo The developers at Oracle's NetBeans group have announced the first beta for NetBeans 7.2. The new version should give a much smoother experience as project scanning is not only faster but is also performed in the background rather than blocking the editor.

Other enhancements include static analysis with improved hints and FindBugs, and TestNG support for Java code. Two screencasts introducing the FindBugs static analysis and TestNG functionality are already available. Java EE developers should be able to make use of smarter code completion for Java Persistence queries and support for Oracle Public Cloud and Amazon Elastic Beanstalk. A more interoperable Scene Builder, better FXML and JavaFX CSS and "FX-in-Swing" projects are now included for JavaFX developers.

PHP users of NetBeans will find it now supports PHP 5.4, has improved editing, and support for Symfony2, Doctrine2 and ApiGen frameworks, FTP remote synchronisation, and support for using Hudson to run PHP projects. C/C++ coders will find that NetBeans 7.2 beta now supports C++11 and has better parsing performance with less memory consumed. Other changes include updating Groovy to version 1.8.6, built-in support for Subversion 1.7, a better Find in Projects function and a 64-bit launcher for Windows.

A detailed list of changes is available on the wiki page NetBeans 7.2 New and Noteworthy. Release notes and installation instructions are also available. NetBeans 7.2 is due to be released in July according to the roadmap. NetBeans 7.2 beta is available to download for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris and other Java capable platforms. As a beta, it is not recommended for production use but for testing and evaluation. Users who need a stable release should download NetBeans 7.1.2. NetBeans is dual licensed under the CDDL 1.0 and LGPLv2.
