.NET development tools for Windows Azure

Microsoft Windows developer icon The second major release of the Windows Azure SDK for .NET is available. Some improvements make it easier to publish finished web sites directly from Visual Studio. Also, application logs for Windows Azure sites can now be streamed directly in Visual Studio, which will be useful when debugging sites stored in the cloud.

Version 2 of the SDK supports instances of high-memory virtual machines and has improvements related to deploying and updating cloud services. In addition, users can find bugs faster in those services now that the diagnostics can be viewed live in Visual Studio; additional data recording functions can be turned on and off directly without needing to redeploy the service.

With SDK 2.0, Windows Azure Storage Tables can now be created in the Visual Studio Server Explorer, as well. The developers also added a few new commands for the Azure PowerShell and updated the Service Bus client library.

The Windows Azure SDK for .NET is available under an Apache 2 licence and is published on GitHub and the Azure Developer Center. Microsoft's Scott Guthrie discusses the SDK in more detail in a Channel 9 video.
