KDevelop 4.4 C++ IDE released
With the release of version 4.4 of KDevelop, the project's development team has added a new context dependent welcome screen to its open source C++ integrated development environment (IDE). Created by long-time contributor Aleix Pol, the new QML/Plasma-based welcome page provides users with a list of projects and sessions, as well as actions for creating a new project or importing an existing one. The developers say that they hope that the screen will help newcomers to get started with KDevelop, while also providing a faster workflow for existing users.
Other than the welcome page, the new version of the KDE-focused IDE brings with it relatively few other changes. "We admit that the list of shiny noteworthy changes in the 4.4 release is a bit small", say the developers. However, they point out that they have also fixed "tons of bugs" and optimised existing features, which should improve the application's overall stability and performance.
Further information can be found in the 4.4 release announcement; at the time of writing, the project's homepage still lists KDevelop 4.3.1 from mid-April as the latest release. Version 4.4 of KDevelop is available to download as GPLv2-licensed source code and a manual is provided on the KDevelop wiki.
