DotNetNuke logo After the latest stable release in August, the DotNetNuke developers have now published version 7.0 of their software. The system, which was started in Visual Basic .NET, has offered web application development and content management functionality under Windows since 2003. The framework is available as open source (Community Edition) and proprietary versions (Professional and Enterprise Editions); most of the new features can be found in the commercial variants.

Among these features is the option to use existing content modules across multiple sites, as long as the sites are located within the same server instance. Other features that are designed to make life easier for developers include an auto-save feature and the option to visually compare versions of files. The Enterprise Edition also supports SharePoint lists and allows users to log in using their Active Directory credentials.

Users of all versions will benefit from an improved control panel with support for bookmarks, along with the ability to drag and drop content modules between panes and from the control panel to a pane. The developers have also simplified installation, provided videos that demonstrate the new features on the start page, and revised the tutorial. DotNetNuke 7.0's commercial versions are available as a free trial, while the MIT-licensed community edition can be downloaded from the project's Codeplex-hosted site.
