Dev Break icon Developer Break – catch up on the smaller but important notes for developers, from libraries to APIs and from people to postings. This week: Coventry products certified, a Visual Source Safe Upgrade tool, Java EE 7 feedback, Xeon Phi OpenCL 1.2 support, an Apache TomEE logo, Studio for WinJS, Engine Yard Local, NetWeaver Cloud and Essential Studio 2012 Volume 4.

  • Coverity's Quality Advisor, Security Advisor and Test Advisor products have all been certified as "Ready" for IBM's Rational software. With the integration, developers can scan their code to find quality and security issues.

  • The Java Enterprise Edition 7 (Java EE 7) Expert Group is seeking feedback from the community on a number of important open issues such as what new JSRs to add to the Java EE Full/Web Profile and how to better align CDI with Java EE. The short survey is available here.

  • Intel has announced support for OpenCL 1.2 for its Xeon Phi coprocessors. With a few minor changes, OpenCL code for older processors should also run.

  • The Apache TomEE developers have announced the start of a new contest to create a logo for the project. Users have until 15 December to submit as many logos as they want; the winning logo will be used on the project's web site, on new T-shirts and on future conference materials.

  • ComponentOne has released a beta version of Studio for WinJS, its new JavaScript product for Windows 8. The software provides a set of user interface elements for data visualisation.

  • Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) provider Engine Yard has introduced a new tool that allows users to develop and test applications in a local cloud. Engine Yard Local uses a virtual machine to simulate an Engine Yard Cloud environment so that developers can quickly find and fix problems before moving their applications to production.

  • With the new beta version of SDK 2.x, SAP's NetWeaver Cloud platform has been certified for the Java EE 6 Web Profile, a subset of the Enterprise Edition platform specifically designed for web applications.

  • The fourth volume of Essential Studio 2012 from Syncfusion is now available and brings with it an RDL report viewer and an OLAP client, as well as a number of theming options. Further details about the changes in Volume 4 of Essential Studio 2012 can be found on the What's New page.
