Dev Break icon Developer Break – catch up on the smaller but important notes for developers, from libraries to APIs and from people to postings. This week: 4D updates their development system, dotCover gets a refresh, Plumbr lands on Solaris, TX Spell gets ready to go with Visual Studio 2012, and Microsoft's Live SDK is now ready for Windows 8 and more.

  • 4D, maker of the 4D development environment and the Wakanda JavaScript platform, has announced version 13.2 of 4D with support and certification for Windows 8 and support for Mac OS X 10.8.

  • JetBrains code coverage tool dotCover has been updated to version 2.2. Along with bug fixes, the update brings integration with the recently released ReSharper 7.1 and support for Windows Store Application Tests.

  • Plumbr, a commercial tool for detecting memory leaks in Java applications, is now available as a new version 1.4 which supports Solaris on x86 and SPARC, and JDK7 on Mac OS X. Plumbr's GUI can also be disabled, which helps when checking Swing applications for leaks.

  • Text Control has released a service pack for spell-checking component TX Spell .NET 3.0. The service pack includes enhancements to make it "work seamlessly with Visual Studio 2012".

  • Microsoft has released another update to the Windows Live SDK which provides the controls and APIs for single sign-on to the company's services. Version 5.3 now supports apps built to run on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7.0, 7.5 and 8.0.
