Atlassian updates Bitbucket and Stash

Atlassian, the company best known for JIRA and Confluence, has announced updates to two of its other products, Bitbucket and Stash. Its online code hosting service, Bitbucket, has received a thorough user interface redesign and version 1.3 of its on-site version control system, Stash, now includes support for pull requests. The Australian company acquired Bitbucket – which was originally based on Mercurial – in 2010 and has been steadily expanding its support for Git. In a similar fashion, the addition of pull requests to Stash also increases its Git support.

With the update to Bitbucket, the user interface has been completely overhauled. Some of the changes, such as the new repository header and the ability to clone repositories with the click of a button, are reminiscent of the rival GitHub service.

Source: Atlassian A new source browser allows users to search repositories and filter the results by branches and tags. Inline comment threading makes the task of reviewing code within a group of several developers easier to manage. Other improvements to the service include faster performance and support for Markdown in comments. The new version also has better integration with Atlassian's JIRA code management system.

With the addition of pull requests, Stash 1.3 receives an essential feature for working within the distributed nature of Git. Like Bitbucket, Stash has also received the ability to leave inline comments during code review. This works together with the diffs interface and a new approval process to help code owners manage pull requests.

Bitbucket can be used free of charge for up to five users. For companies with more users, pricing starts at $10 per month for ten users, up to $200 per month for unlimited usage. Stash has to be self-hosted and can be tried for free for 30 days. Prices for a commercial licence range from $10 for up to ten users to $12,000 for up to 500 users.
