Atlassian's Codegeist rises for the seventh time

Atlassian, maker of Jira, Confluence, Stash and other development tools, has announced the seventh cycle of its Codegeist challenge; a four-month competition to create add-ons, plugins, integrations, extensions, web apps, mobile apps or CLI tools for the company's tools.

In each of the four months (February, March, April and May) the company will award $10,000 to the best add-on submitted during that month. At the end of the four months, there will also be a $10,000 award for the best add-on for Stash, Atlassian's Git Repository Management tool, and one of the four monthly winners will be selected as best overall add-on and will receive an additional $15,000 prize. Submitted add-ons must be listed in the Atlassian Marketplace and the company points out that by adding their Licensing API, developers can sell their add-ons but allow Atlassian to manage the payments, billing and renewals.

The competition will be judged by Atlassian co-CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes and other members of the Atlassian team, and by Jeff Atwood, blogger and the person behind codinghorror.com. They'll be judging the add-ons on the basis of usefulness, "creativity and elegance", and completeness. Full details of the rules, application entry, and an FAQ are available at the Codegeist site.
