Atlassian has announced that the company will be rebranding a number of its add-on applications to "make it easy for customers to distinguish stand-alone products from Atlassian add-ons" and to simplify its product list. The software products themselves will not change; Atlassian is only changing their names and logos to make it clearer how they work with its core life-cycle management applications JIRA and Confluence.

JIRA is an issue and bug tracker used by many medium and large enterprise customers and Confluence is the company's team collaboration tool. Open source projects, such as the Apache Software Foundation, also make use of Atlassian's applications thanks to the company''s "free-for-open-source-projects" policy.

In the next few months, GreenHopper, a project management plugin, will change its name to JIRA Agile, while the bug reporting tool Bonfire will be renamed JIRA Capture. Team Calendars will be rebranded Confluence Team Calendars and SharePoint Connectors will become Confluence SharePoint Connectors to express their close relation to the wiki-style collaboration system. Atlassian says it will contact customers through email and let them know about the changes before they take place.
