Adobe has released a number of cloud-based tools for game developers. The Game Developer Tools are available in Adobe's Creative Cloud and are intended to work together to assist users in the development process, from the initial design all the way to installation. The set is made up of the new Gaming SDK, Flash C++ Compiler and Adobe Scout, as well as trial versions of Flash Professional CS6 and Flash Builder 4.7 Premium.

The Gaming SDK is the foundation for creating and monetising 2D and 3D games written in ActionScript. It also supports the open source 2D and 3D frameworks Starling, Feathers and Away3D. The Flash C++ Compiler can be used to convert games written for PCs, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and iOS directly into browser games that use Flash Player. Scout is a profiling tool that pulls granular internal information from mobile and browser applications written in ActionScript; the information can then be used to improve game performance.

An introduction to Adobe Scout

Flash Professional CS6 is an authoring tool for animations and games that supports developers in producing animated content. Version 4.7 of the Premium edition of the Flash Builder development environment supports the ActionScript Compiler 2.0 (ASC 2.0) and allows users to directly test and debug apps on iOS devices via USB or using the iOS simulator.

A special promotion means that the tools are free for subscribers of Adobe's cloud service. Users who pay for the service will also receive full versions of Flash Professional and Flash Builder and will have access to future versions of Scout as long as their subscription is maintained.
